Timber Stables

Our external timber stables are designed and built to the highest standards, with all panels framed with galvanized steel sections.

From smaller straight stable buildings to larger U-shaped or L-shaped stable blocks our timber stables can be designed and customised to meet your requirements. We can include loose boxes, tack rooms, storage areas or office accommodation.

While maintaining a beautiful classic wooden stable appearance our high-quality panels framed with galvanized steel sections offer a number of advantages over the normal timber-only construction:

  • Greater strength
  • Better durability
  • Stronger and more precise assembly with bolts rather than nails
  • Easily extended

We offer a full design, supply and build service. Our experienced designers will be pleased to discuss your requirements for stables and provide advice and assistance.

Our external timber stables are designed to evolve over time, their design is set for future development. This is why it is easy to upgrade your construction according to your needs, you can add grooming space, a tack room, additional stables, the possibilities are endless!

FAQ's

What preparation do I need to make for the construction of a Cheval stable or barn?

We will send you full details of the groundwork and foundations that are required prior to the construction of the stable or barn. We generally recommend that this work is carried out by a local construction company.

Can I construct my new Cheval stable or barn myself?

Yes! Our equestrian buildings are manufactured to order and delivered complete, ready for smooth efficient construction on site. We are happy to provide full instructions and support for you, or a local contractor to erect the stable. See our post on Self-build Stable Kits.

Do I need planning permission for a stable?

The need for planning permission for stables will depend on whether the stables fit within the permitted development criteria of your local area. You may need to contact your local planning authority (LPA).

REASONS YOU MAY REQUIRE PLANNING PERMISSION FOR STABLES

  • Stables are being built outside the curtilage of the garden, meaning the land immediately surrounding it.
  • The stables require footings, such as foundations or a concrete slab.
  • Building a new infrastructure for stabling such as an American Barn.
  • Making a major change to your building, eg building an extension.
  • Change the use of your building.
  • To use land and/or buildings for keeping horses for recreational or commercial purposes.

Does my horse need a stable?

A well-constructed and maintained stable can offer your horse a place of safety that it finds comforting as well as protection from the weather.  It also enables you more control of your horses’ diet and their environment. Ultimately the requirement for a stable depends on the preferences and needs of your horse. Read more in our blog post here.
